New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider avoided going to arbitration on Wednesday by agreeing to a two-year deal worth almost $5 million.
The two sides were hours away from going to an arbitration hearing when they struck the deal that gives Kreider $2.35 million in 2014-15 and $2.6 million the following year.
Kreider, who is 23 years old, recorded 17 goals and 37 points in the regular season last year and added five goals and 13 points in the Rangers’ playoff run to the Stanley Cup Finals.
He was drafted in 2009 and made his NHL debut with New York during the 2012 playoffs. Since then, he has split his time between the NHL and the American Hockey League (the minor league to the NHL), reports NHL.com .
Kreider’s deal is the second contract agreement the Rangers have reached this week with one of their players as arbitration looms. On Monday, the team agreed to terms with left wing Mats Zuccarello on a deal worth $3.5 million for one year.
The Blueshirts now have about $7 million to reach deals with center Derick Brassard and defenseman John Moore. Both are restricted free agents, according to The New York Daily News .
