Actor Tom Hanks and musician Jack White are celebrating their birthdays today.

Actor, producer, writer and director Tom Hanks turns 58 today. In 1980, Hanks made his film debut in the low-budget slasher film He Knows You're Alone. After an appearance on Happy Days, Ron Howard contacted Hanks to star in Splash. He went on to star in many successful films including Big, Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan, You've Got Mail, The Green Mile, Cast Away, The Da Vinci Code and the animated films The Polar Express and the Toy Story series.

In his career so far, Hanks won a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Philadelphia, as well as a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a People's Choice Award for Best Actor for his role in Forrest Gump. In 2004, he received the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).

Hanks has four children, Colin Hanks, also an actor, and Elizabeth Ann Hanks, with his former wife actress Samantha Lewes, and Chester Marlon and Truman Theodore with his current wife actress Rita Wilson.

Hanks was last seen in the films Saving Mr. Banks and Captain Philips.

Jack White, 39

Musician, singer-songwriter, record producer, multi-instrumentalist, designer, director, writer and actor Jack White turns 39 today. White gained popularity and critical success with the band The White Stripes. In 2006, White became a founding member of the rock band the Raconteurs. In 2009, he became a founding member and drummer of his third commercially successful group, the Dead Weather.

White was awarded the title of "Nashville Music City Ambassador" by the Nashville mayor Karl Dean in 2011. He released his debut solo album, Blunderbuss, in April 2012. The album received wide critical acclaim. His second studio album, Lazaretto, was released on June 10, 2014. As a solo artist, White collaborated with other renowned musicians such as Beck, the Rolling Stones, Alicia Keys, Bob Dylan and Electric Six. White has won eight Grammy Awards in his career so far.

In 2003, White made his acting debut in Mutant Swinger from Mars and has also appeared in Cold Mountain and Walk Hard.
