Celebrities mourn Broadway legend Elaine Stritch

Elaine Stritch, who played Jack Donaghy’s mother on 30 Rock, has passed away at the age of 89.

Many celebrities have expressed their grief over Stritch’s death. Kathie Lee Gifford, host of The Today Show, told The NY Daily News “She always came to play and she always reminded us of what it is to be a legend. She lived life completely on her own terms and what a life it was. Brava!"
Several actors have tweeted their grief regarding the death of Stritch.

Stritch has been acting since the 1940s, according to People. The experienced actress started out on Broadway and was inducted in to the American Theater Hall of Fame in 1995.

According to Stritch’s IMDb page, the actress’s first appearance on television was back in 1948 on The Growing Paynes. Stritch went on to earn eight Emmy nominations, winning three Emmy awards for her work on Law and Order, Elaine Stritch: At Liberty, and 30 Rock.

Stritch played Jack Donaghy’s (Alec Baldwin) mother Colleen on 30 Rock for multiple episodes and received an Emmy for her comedic performance.

The legendary actress was a devout Catholic and did not marry until later in life due to moral reasons. Stritch only married once at the age of 47 to John Bay, who shortly died after due to a brain tumor. She leaves behind no children but does leave behind a great legacy.
