Alex Rodriguez had permission to use PEDs during 2007 season (Report)

New York Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez was granted permission to use PED’s during the 2007 MLB season. Rodriguez had his best season in pinstripes in 2007 with a batting average of .314, 54 home runs, 156 RBI’s, and scored 143 runs. Those statistics allowed him to win his third MVP award, and sign a new 10-year contract with the Yankees.

According to Sports Illustrated, Rodriguez got permission two days before spring training started in February of 2007 to use testosterone. Testosterone had been disqualified from baseball since 2003. Bryan W. Smith was the physician that gave Rodriguez the authorization to use testosterone. As stated in baseball’s performance-enhancing drug policy, players can request a so-called therapeutic use exemption (TUE) to take certain drugs expelled by the MLB.

Ron Berkowitz, who is one of Rodriguez’s representatives, delivered a statement addressing the latest reports on the granted permission given back in 2007. Based on Berkowitz comments, Rodriguez and his representatives are trying to move on from this situation as soon as possible. For now, A-Rod’s goal is getting ready for the 2015 regular season.

"We have turned the page from this and are looking towards 2015 and getting back on the field,” said Berkowitz, reports ESPN New York.
