Wealthy Chinese man decides to feed homeless people in Central Park

Chen Guangbiao, a wealthy Chinese man, has decided to feed hundreds of homeless New Yorkers in Central Park.

The lunch of Wednesday will be held at the Boathouse restaurant. It will be served to 250 residents of the New York City Rescue Mission, the oldest shelter in the world.

"Our thought was if someone wants to treat them to an amazing event - something they would never experience on their own, maybe even a kernel of hope that life could be different again, we're in for that reason. That's our motive," said the mission's executive director, Craig Mayes, according to the Associated Press.

The Chinese philanthropist has selected a menu of sesame-seed-encrusted tuna, beef filet and berries with crème fraiche. He is also offering $300 to each person, stuffed in a red packet. A fan of the song, “We Are the World,” Chen is planning to sing the song to the homeless people at the event, according to the South China Morning Post.

To announce this philanthropic move, Chen placed ads in the Times and The Wall Street Journal.
