41-year-old Dea Millerberg pleaded guilty to three felonies for her involvement in the 2011 death of 16-year-old Alexis Rasmussen, a teen who babysat for Millerberg and her husband in their North Ogden home. She also testified against her husband, 38-year-old Eric Millerberg, for his participation in the crime.
As part of a plea agreement, Millerberg pleaded guilty to obstructing justice, acquiring prescription drugs unlawfully, and desecration of a human body, in addition to testifying against her husband of 10 years. During the three-day trial, she took the stand and recounted the events of the night of the murder.
KSL News reports that Millerberg said that on September 10, 2011, she picked up the teen to babysit her kids, but had other plans in mind. Eric Millerberg injected Rasmussen with methamphetamine and heroin. The three then engaged in sexual activity.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Dea Millerberg said that after her husband injected Rasmussen for the third time, the teen began to complain that she felt cold and shaky. The teen then took a bath, and the Millerbergs allowed her to sleep in their bed. The couple went outside, and when they returned the teen was not breathing and was unresponsive.
The couple then decided to hide the body in the woods of northern Utah. Police discovered it 38 days later, after receiving a top of a fellow inmate of Eric Millerberg.
Eric Millerberg, 38, was convicted of child-abuse homicide, obstructing justice, desecrating a human body, and having unlawful sexual activity with Alexis. He sentenced in March to life in prison. Dea Millerberg, 41, will be sentenced on August 21. She could face $15,000 in fines and a maximum of 15 years in prison.
