Updates have surfaced about the state of the Malaysian airlines jet

Senior investigators have announced that the next phase of the underwater search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 will lead to an area of the Indian Ocean, south of the first suspected crash site. On March 8, the Boeing 777 disappeared after it veered off course during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Martin Dolan, chief commissioner of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, said that he will speak further about the search team using advanced sonar to continue to look for the jet.

All the trends of this analysis will move the search area south of where it was. Dolan told the Associated Press, "Just how much south is something that we're still working on. There was a very complex analysis and there were several different ways of looking at it. Specialists have used several different methodologies and bringing all of that work together to get a consensus view is what we're finalizing at the moment."

Private contractors will use their side-scan sonar equipment and use two survey ships to find debris from the plane. It is the job of those ships to search the sea floor to assist with future search efforts, according to the Examiner. At this point, no trace of the plane has been found.
