A 7-year-old boy is dead and a girl of the same age is in critical condition after they were both stabbed in East New York.
The New York Daily News reports that one of the children was found near an elevator and the other was found outside 845 Schenck Ave, a little before 6 p.m.
Witness Kevin Velez, 41, was at the scene.
“She was laying face up, they were on her chest,” said Velez of the surviving victim. “They opened up her jacket and all you could see is blood.”
The children were taken to Brookdale University Hospital, where unfortunately, one didn't make it.
According to the New York Post, the children were identified as Prince Joshua Avitto and Mikayla Capers.
Lemar King, uncle to the surviving victim, said he was beside himself.
“I’m shaking. I have no idea who could have been out there doing this. … They are just little kids. They never did anything to anybody,’’ he said.
The attacker ran off and is still at large. The police are looking for a “heavyset Black man in his 30s.”
