Tony Awards committee ditches 2 honors

It was only a few days ago that the 68th Tony Awards were being broadcasted and now, things are starting to change for the award show.

The annual event’s admission committee to discuss protocol for the upcoming 2014-2015 season and decided to make some cuts. Brian Ronan and Steve Canyon Kennedy are the last two people to receive a Tony for Best Sound Design of a Play or Musical as Entertainment Weekly reports that these two awards have been eliminated from the season. Yet the committee did say there is an exception to, “the right to determine a special Tony award for certain productions that have excelled in this particular design realm.”

In addition it has been decided that authors and producers of revival shows may be considered for their own reward due to the fact that just because the show is not new, does not mean the people behind it are not.

The Hollywood Reporter announced that within hours of this decision Broadway sound design and composer John Gromada began a petition for the decision to be reversed and currently has over 10,500 signatures.

Do you think the awards should stay or go?
