The Baden, a 90 foot yacht, sinks unexpectedly

A YouTube video shows the 90 foot ship, the Baden, tilted on its side shortly after it was launched in Washington State in mid-May 2014.

The 90 foot yacht was lowered in the water in Anacortes, Washington when it tilted and went under the water.

There were no fatalities in the accident. There were six people on the vessel, and two of them were later admitted to the hospital. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known, but New World Yacht Builders said that the problem seemed to be in the launch apparatus. According to CNBC, Northern Maine said in a press release that the dolly that was carrying the weight of the boat, “may have suddenly dropped off the edge of the boat ramp during the launch.”

Eyewitness Wes Fridell, said, “The boat tilted to one side, and although not unusual, the amount of tilt was a bit more than normal. So we paused to collect ourselves and assure that everything was going to be right, and then as we continued to lower it down, it pitched, and that’s when it went over,” according to Metro.

The Baden is an "explorer yacht" that is designed for smaller expeditions.
