68-year-old Charles Wilkinson was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, 65-year-old Kathleen Wilkinson on Sunday. He strangled his wife during a fight, and left her body on the floor of their bedroom in their Malta home for several days.
CBS 6 reports that a deputy visited the home Sunday after the couple’s son called and asked for a welfare check on his mother, because he hadn’t heard from her in several days. Sheriff Michael Zurlo said, “After a period of discussion at the door, Charles Wilkinson allowed the deputy in the residence, at which time the deputy located the body of Kathleen Wilkinson deceased on the floor.”
The Long Island Press reports that Charles Wilkinson was charged with second-degree murder and was held without bail at Saratoga County jail following arraignment at Town of Malta Court.
Kathleen Wilkison was a retired teacher’s aide. An autopsy confirmed that she died by strangulation. Charles Wilkinson used to serve as a police officer in Nassau County.
If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
