President Obama offers military aid to eastern European NATO allies

President Barack Obama announced Tuesday that the U.S. should protect its NATO allies from the recent Russian scare and plans to do so with a $1 billion fund, if approved by Congress.
According to The Wall Street Journal, The White House divulged the fund plan as Obama arrived in Poland for a four day stay in Europe. The money would go towards an increased U.S. military presence in Europe and navy presence in the Baltic and Black seas. The fund would also place 150 U.S. soldiers and a supply of military equipment in Poland.
The bill is in response to Poland pushing for U.S. security in order to heighten safety as tension continues to increase due to Russia’s annexation of Ukraine. Poland President Bronisław Komorowski stated that the U.S. and Poland are on one accord and that Poland itself will increase its military spending to the North Atlantic Treaty standard of 2 percent.
Obama mentioned during a conference with Bronislaw that doesn’t wish to threaten Russia, but simply make sure that Russia is respecting Ukraine, controlling the pro-seperatists, and working alongside Ukraine president Poroshenko, Reuters noted. Obama also is prepared to aide Ukraine’s economy during the winter months if Moscow were to turn off its gas supply due to lack of payment.
Obama will be meeting with Ukraine president elect Poroshenko on Wednesday. On Friday he will participate celebrate the 70th anniversary of the World War II D-Day landings in France with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
