Mariners blow by Red Sox, 8-2

The Seattle Mariners offense has come alive during their current five-game winning streak. After sweeping the Kansas City Royals, the Mariners have taken the first two games of their series with the Boston Red Sox by a combined score of 20-5. Seattle won Tuesday’s game 8-2.
The Mariners struck early, with two runs in the first and one in the second. Right fielder Endy Chavez led the first inning off with a single, and center fielder James Jones followed with a walk. Two batters later, third baseman Kyle Seager plated the first run with a double to right. First baseman Logan Morrison brought in the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. In the second, Chavez smacked an RBI triple to right to make the score 3-0.
The Red Sox pulled within one on a two-run home run by right fielder Brock Holt in the top of the fourth.
That would be as close as Boston would get because in the fifth, Seattle opened the game up, scoring four runs. Chavez started the rally yet again, this time reaching on a bunt single. After a single by second baseman Robinson Cano advanced Chavez to third, Seager belted a three-run homer to the right field stands. Two batters later, catcher Mike Zunino went yard, making the score 7-2.
The Mariners’ final run came in the eighth inning on an RBI base hit by shortstop Brad Miller, reports ESPN.
“Our guys are starting to pick it up a little bit,” Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon said in his postgame press conference on MLB.com. “I’ve said all along, we haven’t had a stretch where our offense has gotten hot, and I think that’s going to happen. I think the guys are starting to get their legs under them a little bit, starting to warm up a little bit.”
Mariners reliever Joe Beimel picked up the win, throwing 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Red Sox starter Jake Peavey fell to 1-6 on the season. He gave up seven runs on eight hits in five innings of work.
Seattle will look to extend its winning streak to six and complete the sweep on Wednesday night.
