J.K. Rowling speaks out against Scottish independence

J.K. Rowling, known for the famous Harry Potter movies, is taking a moment to speak out against Scottish independence.

Rowling lives in Edinburgh, and wrote the first Harry Potter book at a café in her neighborhood. Rowling thinks that a referendum would be an important moment for Scotland. She doesn’t want Scotland’s citizens to look back and feel that they have made a “historically bad mistake.”

The Scottish people will vote in a September 18th referendum. It is an important vote, as they will be deciding if they should end their 300 year-old-union with England.

Rowling is glad to discuss the risks that come along with independence. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rowling wrote on her website, "The more I listen to the Yes campaign, the more I worry about its minimization and even denial of risks. This separation will not be quick and clean: It will take microsurgery to disentangle three centuries of close interdependence."

Rowling donated one million to fight Scottish independence. She said some of the concern includes the economic impact of being independent, according to Reuters.
