The festival’s grand jury will be led by Luis Minarro, a Spanish producer. This year, twelve films are competing for the top prize, the Crystal Globe.
According to the official website, the Karlovy Vary IFF will present films from all over the world. Selected films for the festival were announced in June, 2014. There are a number of categories including the East of the West, movies from Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Turkey, and the countries of the former Soviet Union. Some independent movies are presented in collaboration with Czech television. There are also documentaries.
Gibson isn’t the only celebrity slated to appear at this year. Hollywood actress Laura Dern will be attending.
The 49th annual Karlovy Vary International Film Festival opens on July 4 and runs through July 12.
