On Tuesday, Caleb Bankston, a star on the popular reality competition show, Survivor, was crushed to death when a train he was riding derailed.

Bankston was working at the Alabama Warrior Railway in Birmingham when he was thrown from the train. Investigators do not know what caused the derailment. According to the Associated Press, the Alabama Warrior Railway is used by industries in Birmingham to haul coal and other materials.

Police officers investigating the matter believe that the rear car slammed into the forward car. Bankston was checking on the small space between the two trains and got caught in-between. The other worker on the train at the time of the accident was not injured. Birmingham PD said that the Federal Railroad Administration and the railway company safety officer are in the process of conducting separate investigations. Officials from Watco Companies said that Bankston’s co-workers are being offered counseling.

Last year, Bankston, 27, was a contestant on Survivor: Blood vs. Water, according to TMZ. Bankston also appeared on the television show, Survivor: One World in 2012.
