Legendary musician, actor, and American Top 40 radio host Casey Kasem died this morning at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington. After a thriving career in both radio and television, hosting a number of radio programs and acting as the voice of Shaggy in Scooby-Doo, Kasem suffered severely with dementia, creating heavy disputes between his children and wife (their stepmother). Here is a look at the last eight months of his life.
October 2, 2013: Casey Kasem’s children protested outside his home, begging stepmother Jean Kasem to let them see their ailing father.
October 16, 2013: Casey Kasem’s children filed a conservatorship request against the will of stepmother Jean Kasem.
December 21, 2013: Two of Casey Kasem’s children settled a visitation agreement with stepmother Jean Kasem.
May 15, 2014: Casey Kasem was found in Washington state after disappearing with wife Jean Kasem.
June 2, 2014: Casey Kasem was taken to a medical facility in Washington state with daughter Kerri Kasem, and was said to be suffering from dementia.
June 11, 2014: Casey Kasem was moved to hospice care after a judge ruled that his eldest daughter, Kerri Kasem, would be responsible for his medical decisions.
June 15, 2014: Casey Kasem passed away at 82. He was surrounded by loved ones and will be sorely missed, as voiced by his daughter this morning on Facebook.
