Woman hospitalized after being hit with flying buzz saw in Midtown Manhattan

A woman was struck in the leg by a flying buzz saw from a construction site while walking in Midtown Manhattan Tuesday morning. The construction company was repairing a water main at 48th Street and Ninth Avenue when the saw flew into the air.

The buzz saw’s blade broke off from the tool, and traveled nearly 100 feet in the air before making contact with the woman’s leg.

Witness Sean Kuilan saw the whole thing. He told NBC News, NBC News “I hear the blade and see the blade literally coming off the machine. It took her right down, gashes on the side of the thigh. The force of that coming in was pretty hard.”

Another witness, Matthew Bisi, was walking down the street when the incident occurred. He told NBC, NBC News “I was on the right side of the sidewalk, suddenly everyone started yelling ‘Get down! Move!’ It was just like crazy chaos. People screaming, all the construction workers.”

The woman suffered cuts to her leg, but was not seriously injured. She was sent to Bellevue Hospital with only minor injuries. NBC NBC News reports that New York’s Department of Design and Construction is investigating the incident.
