Triumph the Insult Comic Dog gets his own Adult Swim show

Robert Smigel's signature puppet Triumph the Insult Comic Dog has had a cult following for years, but hasn't really found a lot of relevance among young audiences today. That could soon change, though, as Adult Swim has decided to pick up a show based on the character.

While the show is currently untitled, the LA Times reveals that the show will centered on the washed-up and debauched former star of a wholesome Lassie-style series from the 1980s. In modern day, Triumph seeks out his former boy co-star. It will be created by Smigel, Michael Koman and David Feldman.

That former boy co-star will be played by 30 Rock star Jack McBrayer.

Although Adult Swim shows are generally pretty short, the Triumph the Insult Comic Dog show will be a half-hour sitcom and have a narrative-driven storyline.

Triumph made his major television debut on Late Night with Conan O'Brien back in 1997 . While he has done specials and other interviews before on Conan's shows and other programs, this will be the most exposed the character will be yet.

Additionally, this will not be the first time that McBrayer and Triumph have worked together, as evident of the clip seen below:
