Trailer Weekly: 'Lullaby,' 'They Came Together' and 'The Fault in our Stars'

This week’s column is filled with both drama and romance, the dramatic and comedic kind in the case of the latter. Lullaby tells the tale of a man who is estranged from his family but must decide whether or not to reconcile with his father, who is choosing to go off of life support after enduring a long battle with cancer. They Came Together is a romantic comedy about hate at first sight, which, of course, morphs into love and all the messy misunderstandings in between. Finally, The Fault in our Stars is a romantic dramedy that chronicles the story of two unconventional teenagers who fall in love after meeting in a cancer support group. All three movies have tremendous star power behind them, are sure to tug at moviegoers’ heart strings along with their funny bones and are sure to carve their own niches in their specific movie genres.

Lullaby is a drama about a man who is estranged from his family, but must choose if he wants to reconcile with them when he receives word that his father plans to take himself off of life support within 48 hours. Starring Amy Adams, Garrett Hedland, Terrence Howard, Anne Archer, Richard Jenkins and Jennifer Hudson, the trailer portrays a son’s (Hedland) struggle with his father’s (Jenkins) cancer while being estranged from his family. Each cast member gives a riveting performance as each deals with the father’s decision to end his long suffering by taking himself off of life support. This powerful and heart wrenching movie opens in theaters on Friday, June 6.

They Came Together is a romantic comedy starring Paul Rudd and Parks and Recreation’s Amy Poehler, who is also a Saturday Night Live alum. They play Joel and Molly, respectively, who hate each other on sight because his big corporate candy company is trying to put her indie candy business out of business. Yet, along the way, as the trailer shows, they end up falling in love, despite Joel still being attracted to his sexy ex-girlfriend. Co-starring Bill Hader, How I Met Your Mother alum Cobie Smulders, SNL alum Kenan Thompson, Law & Order: SVU alum Christopher Meloni, The Hangover movie trilogy’s Ed Helms, Michael Ian Black and Melanie Lynskey, the trailer showcases the couple’s hysterical love story, filled with over-the-top antics that fans have come to expect from any movie or television show with Rudd and/or Poehler. This entertaining romantic comedy opens in theaters on Friday, June 27.

The Fault in our Stars is a romantic dramedy based on the John Green novel of the same name. Starring Divergent’s Shallene Woodley, it follows the love story that forms between two eccentric teenagers after they meet in a cancer support group. Co-starring Ansel Elgort, Willem Dafoe and Laura Dern, the trailer shows Hazel (Woodley,) who must go everywhere with an oxygen tank while Augustus (Elgort,) who has a prosthetic leg, form an unbreakable bond upon meeting and go on a romantic journey of discovery and romance in this heart-warming tale. It opens in theaters on Friday, June 6.
