There have been rumors spreading of a possible feud between Lea Michele and Naya Rivera on the set of Glee. There have been false reports that Rivera was actually fired from Glee. While the real life drama may or may not be happening, it is a great time to take a look at the relationship between their characters Rachel and Santana.

Rachel and Santana have the strongest female voices on the show. Individually, the two have had great covers of hit songs. Santana’s version of "Valarie" blows the roof off of other Glee covers. Rachel’s "Make You Feel My Love" cover was completely heartbreaking. Together, they are unstoppable.

Santana and Rachel’s relationship has been developed throughout the entire series. The have gone from enemies to friends to family. Currently, the two girls live in New York City. While they had been in an arc of disliking each other again, the two girls made up in Glee’s 100th episode. Most recently, Santana did Rachel a huge favor. “So Emotional” was a duet that was originally sung in season three during the Whitney Houston tribute episode titled Dance with Somebody. It is originally by Whitney Houston.

The song was part of an assignment that the girls had. After singing the duet, Rachel told Santana that they needed to keep from being at each other’s throats and should sing more duets together.

“So Emotional” was the first duet that the girls had together. While it can’t touch Houston’s original, it was pretty great. And while Rachel and Santana weren’t friends when singing the song, they seemed to be having fun while singing it.

When singing the song, the girls wanted Elliot to choose which one of them were the better singer. Instead of picking, Elliot chose to quit their band, Pamela Lansbury, because he was sick of their fighting.

In season three, Santana is ousted as a lesbian in a very public way. In the episode, “I Kissed a Girl,” her classmates tease Santana. Josh Coleman, a jock, tells Santana that he can make her normal. Rachel stands up for her and sings “I Kissed a Girl” with Santana in front of the glee club.

It was in the same episode that Santana came to terms with her sexuality. Her friends were accepting but her grandmother was not. While Rachel and Santana weren’t friends, it was nice to see Rachel stand up for her.

“Love Song” was sung after Santana comes to New York to convince Rachel not to take a role that includes full frontal nudity. Rachel, feeling pressured to get naked for her career, decides not to and sings this song with Santana and Quinn.

Santana’s argument for Rachel not doing the naked scene is the best. In high school, Santana made a sex tape to become famous and said that she regretted doing it. She said that Rachel’s kids will look her up on the internet and Rachel being naked will pop up.

“Love Song” is originally by Sara Bareilles. The girls sang the song in “Naked,” the 12th episode of season four.

6. Every Breath You Take

Santana auditioned to be Rachel’s understudy in Funny Girl and caused a fight between the girls. When Santana gets the role, she and Rachel sing the song together. As an understudy, Santana has to learn the role like Rachel. When they sing the song, they’re doing the same thing.

“Every Breath You Take” is originally sung by The Police. The two girls sung the song in the episode “Frenemies,” which is the ninth episode of season five. That was the first episode of the multi-episode arc fight between the girls.

Before Santana and Rachel fought about Funny Girl, they were happy for each other. In “Frenemies,” before Santana auditioned, the two were in a photo shoot together. Because of Funny Girl, Rachel is featured in New York Magazine and asks Santana to join her.

At the end of the song, it is revealed that the song was only in Santana’s daydream and Rachel gets her attention and asks her to get dressed. Before the photo shoot, Santana is sad because all she had gotten was a commercial for a yeast infection medicine.

“A Boy Like That/I Have a Love” is a mash-up of two songs from West Side Story. While the girls were singing “A Boy Like That,” Sebastian is talking to Blaine. The song shows that Sebastian can’t be trusted and that Blaine shouldn’t be near him. During “I Have a Love,” Tina talks about losing her virginity to Mike and how she knew it was the right time. This convinces Rachel that Finn is the right person to lose her virginity to.

Santana and Rachel are practicing for the school musical and not singing this to move on their own story lines. It has nothing to do with their friendship. But the two do show how well their voices go together. This song was sung in “The First Time,” the fifth episode of season three.

“We Found Love” is featured in the tenth episode of the third season, “Yes/No.” After Sam suggests that Will get the glee club to help with his proposal to Emma, the club spends the entire episode trying to pick a song for them to sing.

Rachel offers the song, “Without You” and Santana rejects it sarcastically. However, at the end, the song chosen is “We Found Love.” The glee club sings it as Emma walks through the hall, getting handed roses by students and teachers.

After Rachel auditions for Funny Girl, the director says that she is too young. When they arrive at the diner, she approaches them and tells them that she is not too young and that she will prove it.

Santana puts a quarter into a jukebox and the two begin to dance and sing. The diner customers and the other workers sing along. After they sing, Rachel and Santana leave the diner without talking to the director. Rachel ends up getting the part of Fanny. The director comes back into the diner and asks for a cake to congratulate her.

“A Hard Day’s Night” is originally by The Beatles and was the first episode of season five, “Love, Love, Love.”
