The shooting happened at 11 p.m. in front of guests and tourists at oceanfront Bermuda Sands Motel, Myrtle Beach Police Capt. David Knipes told The Washington Post.

There were four victims, two were pronounced dead the at the scene and the other was transported to a local hospital. The deceased have been identified as Devonte Dantzler, 21, Sandy Gaddis Barnwell, 22, and Jamie Williams, 28.

According to reports by The New York Daily News, witnesses say the shooting began after a fight broke out and escalated.

Knipes said that while there are currently no suspects in custody, detectives are working “around the clock” to find leads and determine a motive.

The shooting occurred during the annual Atlantic Beach BikeFest, which was taking place no more than 20 miles away from the motel. It is not uncommon for police to deal with motorcycle accidents and other minor offenses during the event, but a violent shooting is unusual.

In all of 2013, Knipes said Myrtle Beach only had two homicides.
