The beloved Eddie Murphy comedy franchise Beverly Hills Cop is getting a fourth film scheduled for a 2016 release, according to an announcement by Paramount.
According to Screen Crush, Paramount revealed the reboot via the ERC Box Office Twitter page Friday afternoon. Murphy will return as wise-cracking Detroit officer Alex Foley, as will original producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Brett Ratnor. Previously, a Beverly Hills Cop TV show was in development starring Brandon T. Jackson as Foley’s son, but was canceled at the last minute.
Bruckheimer confessed in a Bloomberg interview, “Paramount is very excited about making it, Eddie is very excited, Brett Ratner is excited about doing it, so I think we’re moving forward. Hopefully we’ll start end of summer, beginning of fall and get rolling on it.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the original Beverly Hills Cop films, released in 1984, 1987, and 1994 respectively, garnered $735.5 million across the globe. The newest script was written by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol).
Beverly Hills Cop 4 is scheduled for March 25, 2016. So far it has the release date all to itself.
Cue Axel F Theme. Paramount's BEVERLY HILLS COP is back on the beat March 25, 2016.
