Janis Joplin documentary looking for buyer at Cannes

Director Amy Berg, famed co-writer and director for the West Memphis Three documentary West of Memphis, is shopping around her documentary about iconic singer Janis Joplin at the Marche du Film at the Cannes Film Festival.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Berg’s documentary on the singer, called Janis: Little Girl Blue shows the more innocent side the legend who’s rise to fame was quickly cut short due to a heroin overdose. Content Film has secured the worldwide sales to the documentary and will be introducing the film to buyers at Cannes.

ScreenDaily notes the documentary will include interviews with family and friends of Joplin, as well as rock star contemporaries. The soundtrack will include some of Joplin’s biggest hits including “Cry Baby”, “Mercedes Benz”, “Piece of My Heart”, and inevitably, “Little Girl Blue”.

The film itself will also be recounted from Joplin herself through personal letters she wrote to family, friends, and lovers beginning from childhood up until the time she died.

The film is still in production and is set to broadcast in the U.S. through the American Masters series on PBS.
