eBay is advising all of its users Wednesday to change their passwords after the company found out about a security breach that allowed access to personal account information.
The eBay database that was hacked had personal information such as phone numbers and addresses, as well as encrypted passwords, Reuters noted.
The security breach occurred around the end of February into early March and allowed access to the entire eBay database through a few compromised employee accounts. eBay did not find out about this hack until a few weeks ago.
According to eBay inc, eBay stated that the hackers could not access the financial information of users such as credit card numbers. Also at this time, eBay has performed tests on all its networks and has not discovered any damage to personal financial information on its other website, PayPal either. All of eBay’s financial information is stored and protected in another database that is encrypted.
“We know our customers trust us with their information, and we take seriously our commitment to maintaining a safe, secure and trusted global marketplace”, the company assured in the website’s announcement.
eBay is not the first company to be hacked within this past year and has suffered over 3 percent in share loses due to hacks from other companies recently.
