The Dish Network says it plans to launch a new Internet-delivered service.
With the new service, mobile devices will contain live sports and entertainment. The service will be delivered by year's end for approximately $20 to $30 a month.
Some 14.1 million subscribers can choose the new options. On Thursday, Dish Chairman Charlie Ergen told analysts that the aim is to make a TV product that makes sense to young adults. Ergen said enough other programmers have come on board to launch the service. However, the technology isn't ready, he said.
"It's a bit like the lobster that gets boiled," Ergen told the Associated Press. "You don't really know you are dead and boiled until it's too late. Dish is just a company that would rather be out front and make some mistakes and be ahead of the curve."
Ergen says that he has enough programming to launch the service. He said it would take time to create the technology to put commercials on mobile devices and track viewing. He says that they are looking at inventions that will take some time, and that more innovative solutions. It is anticipated that the service will launch at the end of 2014, according to Forbes.
