Cleveland Cavaliers win top NBA Draft pick after lottery

For the third time in the last four years, the Cleveland Cavaliers will have the top pick in the NBA Draft. Despite the fact that they had a 1.7 percent chance of getting the top pick, they won the NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday night.
The Cavaliers, who posted a record of 33-49 last season, had the top pick a year ago and selected Anthony Bennett. In 2011, Cleveland took Kyrie Irving with the overall No. 1 selection.
The last time that the same franchise had the top pick two straight years was the Orlando Magic in 1992 and 1993. Their two selections were Shaquille O’Neal and Chris Webber, according to NBA.com.
In the 2014 Draft, the Cavaliers will be followed by the Milwaukee Bucks, who finished with the league’s worst record (15-67). The Bucks had a 25 percent chance at claiming the No. 1 pick.
The No.3 selection belongs to the Philadelphia 76ers, who completed the 2014 campaign with a record of 19-63 (the second worst record in the NBA).
This year’s draft is loaded with talent. Some of the top prospects include Jabari Parker of Duke and Kansas’ Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid.
“This is the deepest draft arguably since LeBron [James] and Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony came out,” Jeff Cohen, the Cavaliers vice chairman, said in an article on ESPN.com.
That year (2003), the Cavs also had the top pick. They selected James, who led them to the 2007 NBA Finals and the best record in the league in 2009 and 2010. He then left Cleveland after seven seasons with the team to join the Miami Heat with Wade and Bosh.
