Celebrity Birthdays, May 6: George Clooney, Gabourey Sidibe and Chris Paul

Actors George Clooney, Gabourey Sidibe, and NBA player Chris Paul are celebrating their birthdays today.

George Clooney, 53

Actor, director, producer, and screenwriter George Clooney turns 53 today. Clooney made his acting debut on television, and later gained wide success with his role as Dr. Douglas "Doug" Ross on the medical drama ER. He received two Emmy nominations for his role. While working on ER, he was also working on films including Batman & Robin, Out of Sight and Three Kings.

In 2001, Clooney starred in Ocean's Eleven, a remake of the 1960 film which starred members of the Rat Pack with Frank Sinatra as Danny Ocean. He later reprised the role in Ocean's Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen. He made his directorial debut with Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002), and has since directed Good Night, and Good Luck (2005), Leatherheads (2008), and The Ides of March (2011).

Clooney won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Syriana, and earned Best Actor nominations for Michael Clayton, Up in the Air and The Descendants. In 2013, he received the Academy Award for Best Picture for producing Argo, alongside Ben Affleck and Grant Heslov.

Clooney is currently engaged to British lawyer, Amal Alamuddin. Cloony is currently filming Tomorrowland, an upcoming 2015 Disney American science fiction mystery film.

Gabourey Sidibe, 31

Actress Gabourey Sidibe turns 31 today. Sidibe made her acting debut in 2009's Precious. She earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her role. From 2010 to 2013, she has a lead role in the Showtime series The Big C.

Sidibe appeared in several films including Yelling to the Sky, Tower Heist and Seven Psychopaths. She also made appearances on television shows including Saturday Night Live, Glenn Martin DDS and American Dad!

In 2013, Sidibe landed the role of Queenie in FX's American Horror Story: Coven, and is scheduled to take part in the fourth season, American Horror Story: Freak Show.

Chris Paul, 29

Professional basketball player Chris Paul turns 29 today. Born and raised in North Carolina, Paul accepted a scholarship with Wake Forest University. After his sophomore year, he declared for the draft. He was chosen fourth overall in the 2005 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Hornets.

Paul was awarded Rookie of the Year in 2006, has been a seven-time All-Star, and an All-Star Game Most Valuable Player (MVP). Paul and the hornets reached the second round of the NBA playoffs in 2008. He has also won two Olympic gold medals with the United States national basketball team.

In 2011, Paul was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers alongside Blake Griffin, and let the team to a more popular franchise. In the beginning of the 2013-14 season, Paul signed a five year contract with the Clippers.
