Bryan Singer will, in fact, return to the director’s chair on Fox’s next X-Men film despite rumors to the contrary.
In an interview with the Daily Beast, X-Men: Days of Future Past writer Simon Kinberg confirmed that Singer’s return is in the cards. “That is the plan,” he told the outlet.
Rumors began to circulate that Fox would try and distance themselves from Singer after he was accused of sexually molesting a teenage boy. Singer has since disavowed the claims, and motioned that the suit be dismissed.
It is not surprising Fox would want him to helm Apocalypse despite the controversy. Days of Future Past opened at over $111 million domestically over the Memorial Day weekend, and is showing no signs of slowing down. The film has garnered major critical success as well, and many see it as strong return to form for the original cast after the universally panned The Last Stand.
Apocalypse will see the return of the new and old casts (also confirmed by Kinberg), and the introduction of a new central villain. The film is slated for release in 2016, but you won’t have to wait that long for a Fox Superhero film. Kinberg has also penned a reboot of the Fantastic Four which is set to hit theaters next year. It stars Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara, Miles Teller, and Jamie Bell .
