‘Orange Is the New Black’ and ‘Philomena’ take home GLAAD awards

During the second part of the Gay Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or GLAAD, awards were held in New York on May 3, with Netflix’s original series Orange is the New Black and the Oscar nominated Philomena taking trophies home.

According to The Hollywood Reporter at the New York ceremony, the sequel to the Los Angeles ceremony that took place in mid April, Orange is the New Black won for best comedy series, with other notable TV winners included CBS’ Elementary for an episode featuring a transgender actress, and Oprah’s Next Chapter on her network for an interview with the first openly gay NBA player Jason Collins. Outstanding Feature Film went to Philomena, and actor and activist, George Takei also received an honorary award.
