California is one of the top spots for theme park entertainment in the whole world. From Disneyland to Knotts Berry Farm, California has something for everyone.
Universal Studios Hollywood has also been one of the top tourist attractions in the state for many years. After the success of Universal Studios Orlando and their recent addition to the park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the sister park in Hollywood is taking the money making idea and brining it to Los Angeles.
Last year, themepark insider announced that construction for the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter was under way. Universal Studios crews demolished the famous Gibson Ampitheater to make room for the new section of the park, which will be an expansive new addition.
The New York Times stated that by 2016, 70 percent of the park will have been remodeled to fit the expansion of the Harry Potter section and other sections such as the Despicable Me land.
“We’re trying to significantly broaden our base. This isn’t about adding rides. It’s about a complete transformation said,” said Larry Kurzweil, president of Universal Studios Hollywood.
It was reported that last year that Universal parks made about $ 1 billion, a 5.3 percent increase from the year before.
When the Wizarding World of Harry Potter opens in 2016, Universal Studios Hollywood is expecting to see an even bigger profit increase. If it is anything like what happened to the Universal Studios in Orlando, whose profits increased 30 percent after their Harry Potter section opened, then Universal Studios Hollywood will surely see the success of this expansion.
