Tampa Bay Rays place Alex Cobb on 15-day disabled list with strained oblique

The Tampa Bay Rays received more bad luck with injuries in their starting rotation when Alex Cobb strained his oblique muscle. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list after throwing seven shutout innings against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.

According to Sports Illustrated, Rays manager Joe Maddon initially believed that Cobb was dehydrated before his strained oblique muscle was discovered.

Cobb had a rocky start in Toronto, allowing four runs in five innings. However, he found his groove and pitched 15.1 scoreless innings. Despite a promising start to his career, Cobb has endured injuries throughout.

He missed two months of the 2013 season after getting hit in the head by a line drive. He also had thoracic outlet syndrome in 2011.

According to ESPN, the Rays are now down two starters. Matt Moore is expected to be out for the season with a sore elbow.

Erik Bedard was added to the Rays' roster and will take Cobb's spot for the time being.
