Ryan Seacrest has big decisions to make as both his contracts with American Idol and The Today Show come to an end, and whether he will return to either one.
According to Variety Seacrest may be overextending himself in all realms of host, correspondent, and producer, which may have both Fox and NBC Universal networks scrambling to keep him.
Variety also reported Seacrest has shown loyalty through thick and thin with Idol, becoming the only mainstay throughout the show’s 13 seasons. Although, his obligations to the Idol kept him stateside rather than travel to Sochi for the Olympics, forcing him to restrict his contributions. Time alone could be a significant player with Seacrest Productions 10 shows on E! as well.
The Wrap noted the once dominate competition show has hit all-time low numbers, in the ever important 18-49 age demographic at a 1.7 rating last week. In comparison, at the height of Idol in Season Five, it was at a 12.6 rating.
Money makes the world go ‘round, and could very well be a make-or-break in Seacrest’s decision for either network. Though he probably won’t see the $30 million contract from American Idol he saw in 2012, they will surely offer him something substantial.
