‘Parenthood’ Recap - ‘I’m Still Here’

Max storms in to Hank’s studio, with Amber chasing him telling him that he still has school work to do. As Amber tries to calm him down, Max throws down a light. Hank is able to speak to Max and make him understand that if his school work comes first, but he will let him extend his time in the studio to make up the difference.

Crosby has Joel look at the repair work needed, seeking advice if he is getting ripped off. Joel jabs at Crosby stating he wouldn’t have this problem at all if he had listened to him two years ago about moving the water heater, but states the job isn’t too hard to fix. Crosby tries to suggest Joel and he could do the work, which Joel quickly states Crosby could go to Home Depot, and figure it out on his own.

As Drew is studying, he sees Natalie across the way, and she approaches him. Still upset, he makes a spectacle, and Natalie was only going to offer him her notes from class, since he hasn’t been going. Everyone stares at Drew as Natalie leaves.

Julia, Kristina and Adam look at a possible property for the school. Mr. Knight arrives, and Julia tries to shake his hand, then awkwardly gives him a hug. They look inside and it needs major fixes, but they all see potential. Kristina insists on taking a selfie, awkwardly putting Julia and Mr. Knight together.

Kristina talks to Adam about how they could fix up the property to make into a school. Kristina then gets a call from Michelle, her friend Gwen’s sister. Michelle knows that Kristina is important in her sister’s life, and tells Kristina that she needs to come see Gwen because she’s not doing well.

Sarah talks to Julia about making Drew some food to bring to his dorm. Julia admits that she slept with Mr. Knight. Surprised, Sarah says that it is OK, and she shouldn’t feel bad about it, considering she should be moving on if Joel isn’t trying to reconcile.

Joel talks to Peet about Crosby’s situation, laughingly. Peet states he should just grab his toolbox and go help Crosby, because she knows family means everything to him. She then says that’s probably why he hasn’t responded to her hitting on him. She then awkwardly changes the subject and leaves.

Sarah surprises Drew at his dorm with some healthy cupcakes, topped with vegetables. Natalie comes in about to say something and sees Sarah, and quickly says hi and leaves.

On her way out of the dorm, Sarah runs into Hank who is doing a photo shoot with the teachers at the school. He tries to talk to her about opening up his feelings toward her, but she tells him it is really not the place or time.

Kristina goes to see Gwen, who is barely awake, hooked up to machines and monitors. Kristina, crying, tells Gwen how much she loves her.

Julia comes to see Kristina and Adam at their house, stating they may not get the property for the school, that there is a developer who does a lot of work with the city trying to close the deal on it. With new determination after seeing Gwen, Kristina tells them they will get the place for the school.

Joel walks into Crosby’s house, while he is sawing off part of the sub floor in his kitchen. Joel tells him to not do that, and says “we” will have to fix that. Crosby asks if he will really help, and Joel says definitely.

Julia goes to see Mr. Knight and states she was in a really weird space with her marriage and says she sorry if she took advantage of him. He tells her that they had fun, and that was it, and that they are good, and he completely understands. Julia tells him that he can’t let Kristina and Adam know.

Kristina is sitting on her bed and Adam walks in the room asking what is wrong. Kristina tells him that Gwen died. She then tells him how guilty she feels that she survived cancer, and all the things she gets to do, kids, family, and why she doesn’t. She says that she’s mad, and she hugs Adam crying.

Sarah talks to Adam at his work, and she talks to him about how Hank opened up to her. She tells him that she sees all the work he’s doing, how he tries to share emotions with her, but she’s not sure if she can be intimate with him again. She says sometimes he still reverts back, and if feels like he’s someone else at those times. Adam says he can’t decide for her, but says he is rooting for Hank, and sees how good he is with Max, and how much he cares about him. Also, if there is someone for Hank, hopefully that will mean there will be someone for Max too.

Amber drops Max off at Hank’s studio. She leaves, answering her phone. Max tells Hank that Amber is outside on the ground. Hank goes outside to see what is wrong and she frantically explains that Ryan was in an accident. Crying and upset, she tries to get in her car to leave and go to San Diego to see him. Seeing how upset she is, Hank tells her that he will drive her.

Kristina goes to Bob Little’s office to try and convince him not to lease the property to the land developer. She makes her case that it will make him look good, and serve a higher purpose. He states he will look into. As she walks out, Kristina tells him that he should lease the property to them, not for her or for him, but because it is the right thing to do.

Hank and Amber make it to the hospital. The front desk won’t tell them what is going on but that Ryan is in surgery. Hank tries to console Amber saying if it were really bad, they would have to tell her something. Amber thanks Hank, and he puts his hand on her shoulder.

Natalie confronts Drew and says that she slept with Berto because she was mad at him. She tells him that she made their relationship loose, then Amy came around and she felt forgotten. She invites Drew to a party but he says he doesn’t think he’s going to go.

Joel and Crosby have a beer after finishing the floor and talk about Zeek selling the house. Joel asks how Julia is handling it and Crosby says the project to open the charter school has kept her busy. Crosby asks how Joel is doing and he admits that it has been tough. Crosby shows a video of the baby to Joel, and Joel misses his family.

Drew goes to the party and tells Natalie she was right. He then tells her that he wants her to be his girlfriend and she says OK.

Amber is sleeping on Hank and he tries to get a magazine without her waking up. Sarah gets there and thanks him, knowing how long of a drive it is. She wakes Amber and holds her.

Joel goes to Julia’s unexpectedly and offers to fix the dishwasher before he heads into work. Julia states she already had it fixed but thanks him for the offer. He asks how she’s doing about her parents selling the house and said it is weird. As they say goodbye Julia has a slight look of hope toward her marriage.

Crosby and the family finally get to go back home.

Kristina looks at a present as Adam walks in after putting Nora down for nap. She tells him it’s from Gwen. They open it together and there is a card, and an oak tree sprout. Kristina opens the card and Gwen wrote saying that her school is going to be fantastic and to enjoy the ride. Adam then pulls out a check toward the school. They plan on naming the school after her.

Sarah walks with Amber to see Ryan. A broken leg and swollen eye, Ryan cries that Amber is there with him.
