Oprah Winfrey interested in buying the Clippers

Oprah Winfrey already has her own network, Teavana tea and magazine. Now, it looks like she might be adding a professional basketball team to her huge empire.

According to E! News, spokeswoman Nicole Nichols confirmed in a Wednesday statement that the former talk show host is thinking about buying the NBA Clippers.

Winfrey is "in discussions with David Geffen andLarry Ellison to make a bid for the Los Angeles Clippers should the team become available,” Nichols said.

Of course, this means 80-year-old current owner, Donald Sterling, will have to decide to sell the team.

The possibility is more likely following Sterling’s controversial comment, where Winfrey spoke out on CBS’ This Morning, saying, “I’m waiting to see what they’re going to do because something has to be done…It feels like a plantation mentality in the 21st century. In 2014, it just doesn’t fit.”

According to ESPN, who was first to report the news, Geffen said: “Oprah is not interested in running the team. She thinks it would be a great thing for an important black American to own [another] franchise.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr., Sean “Diddy” Combs and former child star Frankie Muniz have expressed their desire to buy the team. Despite rumors, Magic Johnson is not interested in the Clippers, according to his tweet.
