Dramedies and action dramas are the name of the game for this edition of Trailer Weekly. The Angriest Man in Brooklyn stars funnyman Robin Williams as a man who believes that he has 90 minutes left to live and sets out to make amends with his loved ones. The Drop is a crime drama involving a robbery gone awry and the ensuing investigation that delves into a neighborhood’s way of getting things done at any cost. Finally, Snowpiercer is an action drama set in the future where a global warming experiment has killed most life on Earth, but a group of survivors evolve aboard a perpetual motion train that travels around the globe. All three movies have their dramatic elements, one mixed with comedy. In addition, all three have some major Hollywood stars in their casts, which is sure to pack the seats of local movie theaters with their fans when their premiere dates arrive.
The Angriest Man in Brooklyn is a dramedy starring Robin Williams, Mila Kunis, Peter Dinklage, James Earl Jones, Melissa Leo, Hamish Linklater and Richard Kind. Williams plays a man who thinks that he has 90 minutes left to live so he decides to make amends with the people in his life. Judging from the trailer, Williams uses his signature comedy to turn an angry character into a lovable one as his character tries to repair his relationships with his wife, brother, his son etc. A little more drama than Williams’ fans are used to, but I’m sure that won’t keep them from flocking to see this movie when it opens in theaters on Friday, May 23.
The Drop is a crime drama starring Tom Hardy, Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows Noomi Rapace and the late James Gandolfini from The Sopranos. Hardy plays a guy who gets mixed up in a robbery gone bad and the subsequent investigation into the neighborhood’s residents and how they make their living brings up even more dangerous questions. The trailer shows the underhanded happenings in a town filled with secrets, lies and violence. Twists, turns and the unexpected are the order of the day in this film as moviegoers won’t be able to ascertain who is on what side of the law. This was Gandolfini’s final on-screen performance before his death in June of 2013. It opens in theaters on Friday, September 19.
Snowpiercer is an action drama based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob & Benjamin Legrand and Jean-Marc Rochette. It tells the tale of a future where a global warming experiment has killed most life on Earth. Yet, a class system forms aboard a train called the Snowpiercer, that travels around the globe thanks to a perpetual motion engine. Starring Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Octavia Spencer and Ed Harris, the trailer showcases how the different classes aboard the train evolve and an uprising ensues for control of the train and its destination. An action packed thrill ride to say the least, moviegoers will be on the edge of their seats with this one. it opens in theaters on Friday, June 27.
