Marie Claire sparked a Twitter controversy Wednesday, April 2, after posting a photograph of Kendall Jenner rocking a partially cornrowed hairstyle.
The publication’s tweet described Jenner’s hairstyle as being “bold” and “epic” according to Huffington Post.
What sparked the controversy was that there is nothing “new” about the hairstyle. Additionally, according to Huffington Post, there was an outrage and joking hashtag on Twitter that began immediately after Marie Claire’s tweet. The hashtag was #EpicBraidLevels.
Many Twitter users began to respond to Marie Claire’s tweet.

Kim Kardashian also weighed in on the controversy, according to E! News. She posted a picture of herself also sporting some braids.
“It’s fun to experiment with new hairs looks!” Kardashian said in her post. “Kendall and I are both trying out cornrow! What do you think…would you guys wear this look?”
Marie Claire then according to E! News, Marie Claire tweeted an apology recognizing why people were upset.

The publication’s follow up tweet stated, “We thought her hair looked great and recognize women have been styling their hair like this for ages.”
