Since 2005, Craig Ferguson has hosted The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Monday, April 28, 2013, Ferguson called it quits. According to ABC News he simply stated, “I’ve been doing this show for 10 years…that’s enough.” Of course, his announcement was full of humor and sounded nonchalant.
There is speculation that the decision came from being bypassed as David Letterman’s replacement for The Late Show. The position was given to Stephen Colbert, a comedic host from Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report. It is easy to assume this is the case. However, it is important to keep in mind that Craig Ferguson is a successful multitalented man, who is involved in just about everything. This man is a writer, actor, comedian, produce, director, and so much more.
Twenty years ago, Ferguson took over Great Britain’s Comedy scene and moved his ambitions towards the United States. Since 1996, he has stayed busy working on several projects at a time. He is a passionate man that gave his self completely to the Entertainment Industry. Yes, he has gained wealth and fame from Hollywood. Keep in mind, Ferguson is 51 years old. There are plenty of actors that are older than him, and are still gainfully employed. However, there comes a point in life when things become predictable and routine. During an interview with Vaniety Ferguson explained, “I wanted to leave the show before I stopped enjoying it. That was my goal. I didn’t want it to be a chore….The whole idea is that show business should have some adventure to it, I think. It’s not about knowing what you’re doing day in and day out, year after year.” The Late Late Show is a daily commitment for Ferguson. Daily television is different from movies. When the movie is done, you move on to the next project. When the broadcast is over, it is time to prep for the next show.
Even though he is leaving The Late Late Show, I doubt he will leave Hollywood completely. In the midst of his departure, Ferguson completed The Hero of Color City. He brings life, through his voice, to Nat. The animated movie is scheduled to release October 3, 2014.
In addition, he completed his role as Gobber in How to Train Your Dragon 2. Gobber the Belch is the Viking’s blacksmith. Don’t let that fool you, he is still a warrior.
He is the executive producer of Naked After Dark, a recap show that airs after Naked and Afraid. Overall, He is most likely removing one of his many hats. In the near future, I don’t see him leaving the Hollywood completely.
