The summer months are rapidly approaching, which means it’s time to kick it into high gear and get yourself ready for beach season! Instead of hopping on a fad diet or crazy exercise program, stick with what works. We’ve put together a list of five summer fitness tips that will get you ready to show off that beach bod sooner than later:
Work those legs!
If you want that rockin’ beach body, the best way to start is by working on your legs. Not only will building your legs give you that tight and toned look, but it also helps strengthen your core and keep your body burning fat. My favorite leg exercise? Squats. They’re great for working your legs, back, core, and of course, butt—all essential for beach season. Do squats twice a week for a few weeks and see how you feel. You might just be surprised.
Bodyweight, Bodyweight, Bodyweight
If you’re looking for an easy way to start slimming down, look no further! Bodyweight exercises like lunges, pull-ups/pushups, and jumping jacks can be done anywhere, anytime. Working bodyweight exercises into your routine is a surefire way to add an extra calorie-burning boost, and the best part is, you can do them any day of your workout week!
Elevate Your Heart Rate
If you want to burn fat during your workout, it’s important to keep your heart rate elevated from start to finish. One of the best ways to do this (and one of the biggest things in the world of fitness right now) is high intensity interval training. The concept is simple, longer periods of intense exercise (or “intervals”) combined with short breaks between intervals. If you can find a H.I.I.T. class near you, sign up! But if you can’t, just take the high intensity mentality into your next workout. Push yourself. If you’re not sweating, you’re probably not doing it right.
Concentrate on your core
Everyone loves a nice tight waistline (especially during bikini season), and the best way to get it is by working on your core. But forget running all the way to the gym, you can work out your core from almost anywhere. Some of my favorite core exercises you can do at home: six –inch raise, planks, high-knees, and V-sits. Try them all and see which you like best!
Hydrate & Cut the Junk Drinks
One of the easiest ways to lose weight fast and get ready for that swimsuit is by cutting “junk” calories out of your diet—nutritionally empty calories that just add to overall body fat. Most people don’t realize exactly how many of these empty calories there are in sugary beverages like soda, sweetened juice, or sports drinks. My recommendation? Get rid of them! If you really want to get ready for beach season, try sticking with H2O for a few weeks. If you do it right, you’ll be able to feel (and see!) a clear difference right away.
