Drugs and alcohol to blame for death of former SEALs

Authorities in the Seychelles have said that drugs and alcohol are to blame for the death of two former Navy SEALs found aboard the Captain Phillps ship.

According to CNN, on Tuesday officials cited a toxicology report that concluded that Jeffrey Reynolds and Mark Kennedy died from a combination of heroin and alcohol.

The New York Times reported that autopsies revealed that the men had died of respiratory failure and possible heart attacks. However, after further analysis, a local pathologist released a statement noting that the deaths “had been as a result of a combination of heroin and alcohol consumption.”

Police say foul play has not been ruled out as the circumstances surrounding their deaths are suspicious.

The Times noted that the case had been forwarded to the attorney general’s office “for further consultation.”

The two men were found dead on the Maersk Alabama in February by a colleague.

The famous cargo ship was hijacked in 2009 by Somalian pirates. Captain Richard Phillips was held captive and rescued days later by Navy SEALs snipers. The story was depicted in the 2013 film.
