Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers revealed who he would vote for to win the NBA MVP award, and his first choice was Oklahoma City Thunder small forward Kevin Durant, who has been the frontrunner to win the award. His second choice was a shocker to most NBA fans though.
He picked Clippers power forward Blake Griffin over Miami Heat small forward LeBron James, according to ESPN. James is widely known as the best player in the NBA.
Rivers cited coaching Griffin as the main reason why he chose him as the runner-up for MVP. Griffin has had his best season to date, averaging 24 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists. He has also carried the Clippers in point guard Chris Paul's extended absence, which was for 18 games. The Clippers went 12-6 without Paul.
James has also had an MVP-caliber season despite it not being his best. He has averaged 27 points, 6.4 rebounds and 6.9 assists for the Heat, according to CBS Sports.
