Boston Bruins clinch best record in NHL with win over Buffalo Sabres

The Boston Bruins defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4-1 and clinched the top seed in the Eastern Conference, along with the best record in the NHL, which is also known as the Presidents' Trophy. This achievement gives them home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs.

According to FOX Sports, the Bruins have 117 points, marking the third most in team history. The most they have earned in a season is 121, which occurred in 1970-71.

The NY Times reports that the Bruins claimed the Presidents' Trophy for the first time since the 1989-90 season. The Sabres are tied for the fewest points in a season not shortened by a lockout with 51.

In the game, David Krejci scored two goals for the Bruins, and Patrice Bergeron scored his 30th goal of the season. Cody Hodgson scored the lone goal for the Sabres.

The Bruins' first playoff opponent remains unknown, but it will either be the Columbus Blue Jackets or Detroit Red Wings.
