Eleven year old, Jamara Stevens of Philadelphia, was fatally shot and killed by her 2 year old brother Saturday morning after they were playing with a gun, allegedly brought into the home by their mother’s boyfriend.
The 11 year old and her brother were playing in the master bedroom of their home. The mother left the room to use the bathroom. The 2 year old pointed the gun at his sister, and fired. According to the Associated Press, the bullet entered her shoulder and traveled to her chest.
Philadelphia police Lt. John Walker could not confirm if any charges were filed, but said that an investigation has been opened, according to Digital Journal.
Four children were left unattended in the master bedroom. It is believed that the gun was brought into the home by the mother’s boyfriend, and was stashed on top of the refrigerator. It isn't known how the weapon got into the room and into the hands of the 2 year old child.
