Zac Efron feels blessed while promoting 'Neighbors' at SXSW

With his new movie, Neighbors, coming out this May, Zac Efron is all smiles as he celebrates at the premier. After some tough times last year, it seems Efron is feeling great and really happy again.

Last year, Efron went to rehab for what seemed to be a drinking and cocaine problem. Life after rehab has been nothing but great for Efron. While promoting his other movie That Awkward Moment, which came out in January, he claimed he was “in the best place I’ve ever been.”

Now, while celebrating and promoting another movie, People reports that Efron was smiling and waving at fans that waited outside the premier at SXSW in Austin, Texas. While at the premier, he told the audience, “I’ve been blessed to have the opportunities I’ve had. It couldn’t have happened better. I’m stoked.”

Neighbors stars Efron, Seth Rogen, Dave Franco and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. With a hysterical cast like that, it’s set to be a hit movie. On March 8, there was a Facebook live Q&A with this star cast and Efron revealed how he’s “kind of fallen in love” with Austin. The director, Richard Linklater, introduced Efron to SXSW and he has him to thank for his new love for this city.

Efron plays a frat guy, Teddy, in this movie who loves to party. Being familiar with this type of character given his past, Efron was thrilled to get to play a character he’s familiar with because it almost came natural. “I knew this guy,” he said. “He’s crazy. I was excited to play him.”

Seth Rogen plays the character of a father who has recently had a baby and is forced to live next to Efron’s fraternity house. Co-starring with Seth Rogen was also a big deal for Efron. During the Q&A, the two shared the story of when they first met. Apparently, Efron is a huge Seth Rogen fan and was very star-struck when he approached Rogen at a party. “I was so nervous. He was sort of my God,” he said about the encounter. “It was at the Sunset Towers, I was 17 or 18, I idolized him at this point.” He went on to tell Rogen how huge of a fan he was.

Rogen, being the funny man we all know and love, replied saying, “I thought you were too young to see my movies. Did your mom take you?”

After the premier, Efron said to the audience, “We will take it back to college tonight,” and he made sure to keep his promise, even though he was not spotted out at the party. The after party, which took place at the Lustre Pear bar, was decorated with beer cans and pizza boxes to resemble a frat house.

Neighbors will hit theaters May 9 and is the perfect mix of married life and college life. With a cast like this one, it is guaranteed to make you laugh. Here’s the full Facebook Live chat with the crew.
