Production on Fast and the Furious 7 will resume in April. The cast and crew has been dealing with the dramatic and sudden loss of Furious family member Paul Walker and the future of the next film in the widely popular franchise was unknown for a couple of weeks. How does a major film move on without the star that was behind the passion and heart of the project?
It will not be easy for the cast and crew and moviegoers to not see Walker on the big screen leading the Furious family to another action packed adventure but the show has to go on and not for just monetary reasons. It is true, the film is likely to make millions for the studio but having Fast 7 come to theaters will be a healing process for everyone.
When the Fast and the Furious first came out it was a fast paced high intensity action film. Audience members got to feel like they had a front row seat for fast car chases and intense street races but at the core of the film was something very different. Something far removed from the NAS lines and fast cars. The Fast franchise has and always will be about family.
The movies always come back to putting your family first and protecting one another. The last film ended with the Fast cast at the house that was featured in the first film. The group was making dinner and all gathered together. Even though this was a scene in the film, it felt like old friends had come back together and were home. It was hard to tell when the movie ended and when real life began because the actors became a family both on screen and off.
The Fast family suffered an impossible loss but by moving forward with this film they are remembering that Walker devoted his life and most of his career to helping this franchise move forward. The best way to honor Walker is to make the best Fast movie that audiences have yet to see. This will give everyone on set and in the movie theaters time to remember Walker’s love for fast cars and this franchise.
The Fast franchise also taught fans a very important lesson, if you are the first person to reach for food before grace has been said that honor will fall to you. It seems only fitting that the last words in Fast 6 were as follows, “Father thank you for the gathering of friends, Father we give thanks for all the choices we’ve made because that’s make us who we are, let us forever cherish the loved one we’ve lost along the way; thank you for the little angel, the newest addition to our family, thank you for bringing Letty home, and most of all thank you for fast cars!”
