The Pretty Reckless made a huge splash on the hard rock metal scene with their debut album Light Me Up, with one-time Gossip Girl Taylor Momson shedding off her good-girl acting image, and solidifying a place in the scene. The Pretty Reckless are back four years later with their highly anticipated follow-up Going To Hell and the wait has been worth it.
Kicking off the album, complete with blatant sexual moaning in the background, the kicking down the door rocker “Follow Me Down” leads the charge. “Going To Hell” in all its head-banging glory, and the boot-stomping, anthemic “Heaven Knows”, follow, but on first listen had us wondering if the album peaked too soon. Thankfully, no, we’re just getting started. Slowed down a bit with the Evanescence-esque “House on a Hill”, quick ballads “Dear Sister” and “Burn” weaving in and out, the blues-based rockers keep coming. “Sweet Things”, a guitar chugging rocker, Momson channels her inner Debbie Harry on “Blame Me”, and the tongue-in-cheek “Why’d You Bring a Shotgun to a Party”, stating if you wanted to make a statement/then you should’ve come without it, are just some of the highlights.
Momson’s vocals are completely spot on, delivering the angst we all expected, and wanted. Momson has made her mark in music as a rock-heroine like Joan Jett and Lita Ford did before her.
The Pretty Reckless have delivered an album that is sure to be repeated over and over again in CD players and playlists for months to come. Going To Hell is released today, March 18, on Razor and Tie Records.
