The idea from Converse “Three Artists, One Song,” is to mash-up an unlikely music collaboration, and after a two year hiatus, is now back with rap/R&B artist Frank Ocean with Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash for the song “Hero”.
According to Rolling Stone called the single “an unexpected, energizing meld of Santo and Johnny-style surf riffs with chipper doo-wop harmonies, heady garage-rock guitars and electronic underpinnings.”
Leading the charge was producer Diplo, a noted long-time Clash enthusiast who even sampled their Combat Rock track "Straight to Hell" on M.I.A.’s smash hit "Paper Planes" in 2007. Diplo stated to Rolling Stone, "for me, the Clash represented really unexpected things with a garage attitude, so that’s where I was going with 'Hero.'"
The track was released for free on Converse Tumblr, and also features additional vocals from the West Los Angeles Children’s Choir. This is the ninth installment of “Three Artists, One Song” with earlier incarnations featuring Pharrell, Santigold, and Julian Casablancas on the song “My Drive-Thru”, and Gorillaz' Damon Albarn, LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy and Soulja Boy on “Warrior”.
