‘Take a Chance’ by Abbi Glines review

Take a Chance is the latest from the New York Times, USA TODAY, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Abbi Glines. It is the sixth book from the The Rosemary Beach Series that follows Rush Finlay’s best friend Grant Carter and rock star Kiro Manning’s daughter, Harlow Manning.

Grant was introduced to readers in the beginning of the series in Fallen Too Far. Blaire Wynn pulled her gun out on Grant when they first met because she was caught off guard by his approach. As soon as Grant opened his mouth, and proved he was a good guy she was quickly melted with his playboy charm. Through out The Rosemary Beach Series Grant has been portrayed as the smooth talking, carefree, gorgeous bachelor who doesn’t take relationships seriously.

Grant gives his fling with Nan a chance to blossom to something more, but in the end it only leaves him with a bad reputation and a bruised ego. Nan has the reputation of being Rush’s evil, self-centered, man-eating heartbreaker. Despite knowing the consequences that are connected with Nan, Grant constantly finds himself in tangled up in a meaningless on and off fling with her. Grant has never regretted his relationship with Nan until he finds out she has a beautiful half-sister, Harlow.

Harlow is the complete opposite of Nan from her upbringing to her reserved, modest, kind, and passionate personality. Nan absolutely despises Harlow because she is Kiro’s favorite child. Nan is completely jealous of Harlow and makes it a point to always pick fights and harass her. Harlow and Grant have crossed paths before at Rush and Blaire’s wedding. There was an instant attraction between the two, but it quickly halted when they found out about Nan. Harlow believes that she can never be close or be friends with anyone who is romantic with Nan. Grant wishes that he never got involved with Nan and wants nothing more to prove himself to Harlow.

Harlow is completely reluctant to be around Grant. She fights her feelings for him because of his connection with Nan. Grant falls for Harlow more and more everyday he is around her. They both have a wall that guards their hearts but finally give their relationship a chance. Before they can allow their relationship to grow death seizes Rosemary Beach that makes Grant flee. Once he is in Rosemary Beach Grant realizes how love and loss can completely consume a person. Grant begins to distance himself from the chance to fall in love with Harlow and falls back to his old ways.

Harlow is left not knowing what to expect from Grant as they completely lose all forms of communication. They are thrown together once again when Kiro sends Harlow to live with Nan as he sets off on a tour. Harlow already hates the predicament she is in, and her heart hates it even more when she sees Grant standing in front of her wearing only boxers. Grant and Harlow have their challenges ahead of them but find a way to reconnect. Harlow has a difficult time trusting Grant again, but with the secret she is withholding gives her the push to be with Grant.

Take a Chance is my favorite thus far from the The Rosemary Beach Series and there is a lot of twist and turn that will have you at the edge of your seat. The character development is phenomenal and I absolutely loved Harlow from the beginning to the end. She was a mysterious character that is relatable and brought a sense of peace to Rosemary Beach. It is an emotional story that gives you background on Kiro and Harlow’s personal life. Overall Take a Chance is a steamy and addictive read and Glines leaves us with a wicked cliffhanger. Grant and Harlow’s story continues in One More Chance that is set to be released September 2, 2014.
