Nicolas Cage is a person who never afraid to say what’s on his mind and being on a SXSW panel is no different.
Variety reported the actor, and nephew to Francis Ford Coppola, let the comments fly during his hour-long panel with his Joe director David Gordon Green.
Speaking about the start of his acting career and influence, Cage stated he wanted to be an actor much like James Deen in Rebel Without A Cause and East of Eden, exuding a raw performance. He went on to talk about the state of having fame now, and it is not just your work your get judged on or even written about, and people “being famous for famous’ sake.” Cage then said “I’m not complaining, but it really sucks to be famous right now.”
Cage is in Austin, Texas to promote and screen the movie Joe,The Guardian noted. The film is an adaptation of Larry Brown's 1991 novel, and the drama also stars Tye Sheridan and Ronnie Gene Blevins. Cage has been receiving high praise from his performance when Joe screened at the 2013 Toronto and Venice film festivals.
