The heavy metal band Metallica gave word about their new tribute song to Ronnie James Dio.
In choosing a tribute from Dio, the band looked to songs that inspired them. In 2010, Dio died of cancer, but left behind numerous memorable songs from the Seventies.
According to NME, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said, "[Dio's] music is so much a part of what's in Metallica's DNA, the harder, edgier, blues-based hard rock from the '70s. It was fairly effortless to put this together, because it's something that we were all reared on."
Metallica picked four songs and then created the nine minute track, “Ronnie Rising Medley,” according to Rolling Stone. Metallica is currently on tour and is scheduled to play this week in Paraguay, Chile, and Buenos Aires, Argentina before returning to Los Angeles for the MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert on May 12.
Metallica is a heavy metal band from California. The members of Metallica include James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo. Their albums include Master of Puppets, Metallica, Reload, St Anger, and Death Magnetic.
